Families are being challenged to complete a trail of town centre shops and track down 14 iconic
rabbits as part of a drive encouraging people to visit Northampton this Easter.
The trail is being funded and delivered by Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement
District (BID) and aims to increase footfall into the town over the Easter holidays, urging
families to support local businesses.
The fun activity will see participants given a map of the town with 15 locations. They need to
visit each location, where they will find a wooden figure of a well-known rabbit from the world
of film, TV or books. Each rabbit will be holding an Easter egg featuring a letter. Players have to
find all 14 letters and unscramble them to come up with a popular Easter phrase.
When players have completed the entry form by spelling out the phrase, they can exchange it
for a chocolate treat from the 15 th location, Market Square News. Entrants will then be entered
into a prize draw, with two winners each receiving a £50 voucher to spend in a town centre
business of their choice.
Mark Mullen, operations manager for Northampton Town Centre BID, said: “The Easter
holidays are the perfect time for families to get out and about and enjoy the Spring sunshine.
We wanted to give people the opportunity to visit Northampton and explore the town centre,
supporting some of their favourite small businesses and discover new ones as well.
“The Easter Bunny is an iconic figure and we are grateful for the support of the construction
team at Northampton College, in particular Dave Brown, who has painstakingly researched,
designed and handpainted all 15 installations for us.
“We look forward to seeing the bunnies in their new homes for Easter and hopefully hundreds
of families will enjoy searching for them and will tuck into their chocolate treat at the end of
the trail.”
Mark Bradshaw, curriculum manager for construction at Northampton College, said: “This is a
lovely project and one that Dave has really enjoyed getting his teeth stuck into.
“He’s a bit of a living legend round here and is so passionate about his signwriting and painted
projects. His creativity and hard work has really rubbed off onto the students and they have
done a fantastic job to get all the figures designed and painted. I can’t wait to get out there and
complete the trail, supporting the businesses in our town centre.”
