The Mayor of Northampton has teamed up with Bangladeshi business leaders in the town to honour three people who have made a difference to their local communities.
Cllr Mike Hallam was on hand to give out the honours in the Mayor’s Parlour at the Guildhall, as part of an event recognising the outstanding contributions of the town’s Bangladeshi community.
The ceremony was organised in partnership with the Northampton Bangladeshi Business Chamber CIC and marked the achievements of three British Bangladeshis who have risen to become hugely respected members of their local community.
Nosir Ali was given the Outstanding Community Activist award while Simran Ali, who runs Opium restaurant in Wellingborough Road, Northampton, won the Young Entrepreneur award.
Solicitor Aktar Hussain, who owns Lexwell Legal Services, received the Community Champion award.
Cllr Naz Islam, chairman of NBBC, said: “The strength of any community is measured by the people who quietly give their time, energy and passion to help others, and the three award recipients recognised today are wonderful examples of that spirit in action.
“Each of them has made a lasting difference in their own way – whether through community service, entrepreneurship or professional leadership – and their contributions have enriched not only the Bangladeshi community but Northampton as a whole”
NBBC Secretary, Mujibur Rahman, added: “It was a privilege to celebrate these achievements alongside the Mayor and to recognise the positive impact the winners have had on the lives of so many people. Their stories remind us of what can be achieved when people come together, support one another and take pride in serving their community.”
Deputy chairman Tipu Rahman said: “We are proud to champion individuals who inspire others, build bridges between communities and help make Northampton a stronger, more inclusive and more vibrant place to live and work. We hope these awards encourage others to follow in their footsteps and continue the tradition of giving back that is such an important part of our community.”
