Outdoor cinema event brings big screen fun to Market Square

Families in Northampton can enjoy a day of free outdoor cinema on Saturday, 18 July, as Movies on the Square transforms the town centre into a giant open-air big screen venue.

A spectacular outdoor screen will showcase a programme of family-friendly entertainment, beginning with a Northampton Film Festival Showcase at 10am, followed by screenings of Hoppers at 1pm, Coco at 3pm and Disney’s Zootropolis 2 at 5pm. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take part in the creation of an animated film as part of the day’s activities.

Mark Mullen, Chief Operating Officer of Northampton BID, said: “We are thrilled to bring free, high-quality family entertainment to the heart of Northampton. Movies on the Square is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to come together, enjoy some fantastic films and experience the vibrant atmosphere of our revitalised Market Square.”

Seating will be limited, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place. Gazebos are not permitted and visitors are encouraged to support local traders and retailers where possible to buy food and drink.

It follows on the back of last year’s successful Movies on the Square event headlined by Moana, which was the first time the Market Square had been used in this way.

The event is presented by Northampton Town Centre BID in partnership with Northampton Film Festival and West Northamptonshire Council, who have supported with additional funding to provide complimentary children’s activities in the form of face painters and an entertainer.
