The female fire maestro at a Northamptonshire health and safety consultancy has
been promoted to manager, leading one of the company’s three dedicated divisions.
Lorna Smith joined Acorn Safety Services, which provides health and safety services
to businesses, charities and organisations across the UK, in August last year as a
senior fire risk assessor.
Less than nine months after her appointment, Lorna has been promoted to fire safety
manager. She will head up the Fire Safety department, with two other specialists in
charge of the consultancy’s Health and Safety section and Legionella division
respectively.
Lorna, who previously worked as a Health and Safety consultant for a large
insurance company, regularly shares her expert knowledge with the rest of the team,
who are regularly visiting diverse types of building including fast food outlets, care
facilities, and a renovated 17 th century glass factory, as well as numerous offices,
warehouses and public buildings.
Lorna said: “I am delighted to have been promoted to Fire Safety Manager. The
Acorn Safety team has been so welcoming, and I enjoy the wide variety of work that
we do. Keeping people safe and protecting life is the key factor in all fire safety work
and I am proud of how well we do that.
“It has been incredibly busy since I started here and we’re now in the process of
growing the fire safety division in order to effectively meet customer demand.”
Acorn Safety Services operations director Zeynep Guzelkasap said: “Lorna has been
an incredible asset to our business from the moment she arrived. Her knowledge
and expertise are second to none and she embodies everything we look for in a fire
